Invasive, Threatened and Endangered Species
Invasive- Any species that has been introduced to an environment where it is not native, and that has since become a nuisance through rapid spread and increase in numbers, often to the detriment of native species.
One example of this is the emerald ash borer, or Agrilus planipennis
Threatend- A species liekly to become endangered in the foreseeable future.One example of these in a temperate forest is the Wood turtle, or Glyptemys insculpta.
Endangered- Any species which is in danger of extinction throughout all or a significant portion of its range. A species whose numbers are so small that the species is at risk of extinction.
One endangered species in a temperate forest is the Northern Leopard Frog, or Lithobates pipiens.
